Janet Yellen is expected to be the next Treasury secretary of the United States, making history as the first woman to hold this position. Janet Yellen has previously served as a top economic adviser under the Clinton administration, and as the chairwoman of the Federal Reserve in the Obama White House. As Treasury secretary, Yellen will head the department that handles, among other things tax collection, public-debt management, and the enactment of international sanctions. During a Pandemic, however, Janet Yellen will focus on economic recovery efforts. In a tweet following Biden’s announcement that he will be appointing Janet Yellen as the Treasury secretary, Yellen said, “ “We face great challenges as a country right now. To recover, we must restore the American dream – a society where each person can rise to their potential and dream even bigger for their children.”
