Raising Awareness For Heart Health

Raise Awareness For Heart Health During National Heart Month

By Eliza Fogel

February is National Heart month to raise awareness for heart disease, the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Heart disease can often be prevented with healthy choices and managing one’s health conditions. We can use American Heart month to raise awareness for heart disease and how we can prevent it, both at home and in the community. Some simple ways we can make small changes like using spices to season food instead of salt, engage in physical activity and make it part of the school day, and ask nurses and doctors to be avid spokespeople in their communities and speak about heart disease. In 2019, 1 in 3 adults in the United States have high blood cholesterol, a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.  High blood cholesterol can be hard to find because it often shows no signs or symptoms that can be easily detected.
