Dark Phoenix

Sophie Turner stars in the latest X-Men franchise as Jean Grey who develops powers that make her turn into the evil Dark Phoenix. The other X-Men have to decide if her life is worth more than all the other people living in the world. Release date: June 7

 

 

Late Night

Mindy Kaling wrote the screenplay and stars alongside Emma Thompson. Thompson plays an iconic late-night TV host who is failing and about to lose her show. She hires Kaling’s Molly Patel hoping to revitalize her reputation. Release date: June 7

 

 

Lion King

It seems as if the world is eagerly awaiting Disney’s live-action version of Lion King with Beyoncé playing Nala, Donald Glover playing Simba and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa. Release date: July 19

 

 

The Farewell

Awkwafina stars in this Sundance and critic favorite comedy/drama about a Chinese family who discovers that their Grandma does not have long to live and instead of telling her, decide to quickly plan a wedding as an excuse to get the whole family together with her to say goodbye. Awkwafina’s character, who is Americanized, struggles with the secret and faces a lot of push back from her family on the East vs. West mentality. It is a personal story by the writer/director Lulu WangRelease date: July 12. 

 

 

The Flood

Lena Headey (aka. Cersei Lannister) stars as a seasoned immigration officer who has to determine whether or not to allow a questionable immigrant into the UK.  Also stars Iain Glen (aka. Ser Jorah Mormont).  Not sure we will be able to handle these two former GoT characters being on screen together in new roles!
