How To Get Involved In Earth Day

Earth Day – Ways to Get Involved

By Eliza Fogel

Earth Day 2019 kicks of with nationally coordinated city clean ups across the nation in collaboration with partners across the U.S., including national clean up day. Volunteers in 13 cities across the U.S. will come together in grassroots organizations  for Earth Day 2019 to clean up green spaces, urban waterways, and landscapes alike. Clean ups will take place Saturday April 27, 2019 in cities like Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles, Richmond, Seattle, and more. Volunteers are invited to sign up at earthday.org/cleanup. The initiative of this nationwide clean up is to create a unified campaign that will bring together millions of people for a broader impact. In 25 cities across the country, the Earth Day 2019 aims to inspire volunteerism and create meaningful efforts in removing our waste.

Here in Westchester there are many ways to get involved in Earth Day through volunteering. Firstly, just nearby in Rockland county there are cleanups running through May. On April 15th in Nanuet, there is a cleanup from 10am – 1pm at Raymour and Flanigan. In the Hudson valley there is a annual Great Saw Mill River cleanup where hundreds of volunteers will gather in eight different sights along the Hudson River from Yonkers to Elmsford. Just nearby in Larchmont, Sheldrake’s Earth Day celebration offers an afternoon of fun and a story walk with Todd Harrington, author of What are Trees For. The Sheldrake’s environmental center is also hosting a cleanup of the Larchmont Reservoir conservancy.
