Avril Lavigne

The singer just released her first song in five years, the powerful and emotional “Head Above Water”, which is about her struggle with Lyme disease.  Lavigne said that one night she thought she was going to die and accepted that she was going to die as she felt like she was drowning. Lavigne told Entertainment Tonight, “In that moment, the song writing of this album began,” she says. “It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”

Lavigne is also bringing awareness to Lyme disease through The Avril Lavigne Foundation. The foundation has created a charitable T-shirt campaign that will raise money for people affected by Lyme who can’t afford treatments.
