On November 15th 2024, Jake Paul (27) took Mike Tyson (58) in a highly anticipated fight. Tyson is three decades older than Paul and is known as one of the most influential, loved, and tough fighters of all time. The matchup was intriguing and 60 million households worldwide tuned in to watch on TV. Some believed that Tyson would win as he is stronger and more knowledgeable. Others took Paul’s age into account and thought that since Paul is younger and in his prime age of fighting, he would be victorious.

The fact that the predicted winner of the fight was contentious made it all the more interesting. The majority, however, did believe it was Tyson who was going to take the win. The contenders fought eight full rounds, two minutes long each. Paul emerged the victor with a unanimous decision. A HUGE upset. But it was not really a loss in Tyson’s eyes. On his social media, he claims “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night.” He fought hard and tried his best despite his age and facing an unclear flareup in March, leading to him needing eight blood transfusions, fighting more and more to get healthy. He was grateful for the opportunity to do what he loves in such a big match, one last time, and believes that, “To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter, half my age, in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium, is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.” So in essence, the loss really wasn’t that much of a loss for the highly respected fighter, Mike Tyson.
