Female Empowerment After the Pandemic

By Kate Burdick

As the COVID-19 Pandemic swept through the globe, it negatively impacted the economic opportunities of women. However, many women are working hard to make a change and help those affected. For example, Brit Morin created the website Selfmade to combat job losses. Selfmade provides an entrepreneurship course with proper training to help women pursue their careers. Additionally, the company Ladies Who Launch, which was founded by Kelly McGonigle and Sarah Friar, provides complimentary marketing plans, social media templates, and tips from entrepreneurs to help kick-start businesses. McGonigle and Friar also created a Launch Program to support struggling women’s businesses as a result of the pandemic. By helping to financially support others, these women are playing their part in making this world a better place. Although many women faced difficult times in 2020, others are helping build them back up.

Britney Spears’s Conservatorship Is Finally Over. What Happens Now?

By Haley Brettschneider

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled to end the conservatorship of Britney Spears. Spears was under legal guardianship by her father Jamie Spears who greatly abused his privileges as conservator. By utilizing social media to speak out against her father, Spears made her case for freedom very prominent in the media allowing for the #FreeBritney platform to launch. Fans took to the streets to protest Spears’ conservatorship and allowed for her case to be taken to court.

Under legal conservatorship, Britney’s father has control of her financial estates and her mental and physical well being. Britney Spears says she was limited to telling her genuine feelings about the conservatory while she was under legal guardianship by her father but she has not hesitated to speak out now. On the day the court decision was made, Spears tweeted “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever”. We are thankful Britney Spears was finally given her freedom back.
